E. E. Cummings eXposure project

E. E. Cummings eXposure project

E. E. Cummings eXposure project
November 2000

One of my favourite poets is E. E. Cummings, and when fellow digital artists, Jake and George, from EndEffect said that I could do a project for their eXposure section, I decided to use him as the focus of that project. The pictures in the series evolved from my visual interpretation behind the imagery of his poetry, and partly grew from my emotional responses to the poems.

Both of these designs incorporate a certain linear structure bisected by circular elements. This is intended to give the viewer the subtle unconcious idea that while the works in question seems deceptively straightforward, the journey contained within each poem gets to the point through strangely, circuitous routes. This is particularly deliberate in the bottom piece, dead, where the lines are bracketed with the sign of an alpha and omega--the first and last letters in the Greek alphabet, and imagery often associated with beginnings and endings.
