Logo comps over time

GamePro Family Logo
Client: GamePro/IDG Entertainment • 2006

GamePro Family is a website intended to help parents monitor their children's game choices. At the top you see the final version of the GamePro Family logo. Below that, in descending order, I've shown various versions of logo comps. At first the site was going to be called Game Patrol, and I tried to evoke a sort of road-sign theme for a while, or playing with softened versions of military insignia. Eventually it was decided to keep GamePro's name and branding in the logo. So the next batch had me playing with different fonts and layouts involving the GamePro logo. The second batch had me trying to integrate family-friendly imagery...various silhouettes of a gaming family were experimented with. A contract designer we were working with took my icon ideas and developed the family icons you see at the far left. I then took that family illustration, cleaned it up so it could work on both light and dark background, and integrated it with the chosen font face to create the final logo as seen on GamePro Family. (The word Family is created from a modified Trebuchet font face. I designed the ligatures.)
